A Image-Line, acabou de revelar uma novidade para o seu produto “flag-ship”, o FL Studio.
O video seguinte é uma demonstração desta novidade ainda em fase alpha, é um modo “LIVE” com características bastante interessantes.

Performance Mode is coming along nicely with some useful play-mode features, visualization and clip queuing.

O regresso da Casio

Após um jejum de mais de dez anos, a Casio regressa ao mundo dos sintetizadores. Apresentados na NAMM 2012, estes XW-P1 e XW-G1 afirmam-se como a resposta aos problemas dos teclistas que querem o poder sonoro de sintetizadores, órgãos, e sequenciadores, tudo num único instrumento. Mas será que cumprem?

Começando pelo P1, vemos que a Casio realmente tentou fazer um produto bastante completo. Para o público geral, pianos acústicos e elétricos, guitarras, percussão. No fundo, 400 sons PCM ‘prontos a tocar’. Para os mais entendidos, existem vários módulos de som com todas as funcionalidades que se esperam dum bom teclado semi-profissional. Na categoria ‘Lead’, um sintetizador monofónico constituído por seis osciladores, dotado de controlos em tempo real por knobs e faders, tanto dos osciladores como dos filtros, e de um editor completo, com inúmeros parâmetros (vários tipos de onda, LFOs, envelopes..), acessível através do pequeno LCD no centro da unidade. Na categoria seguinte, ‘Hex Layer’, temos uma versão polifónica do ‘Lead’, onde podemos juntar vários sons em simultâneo, desde pianos a sons orquestrais, com a função ‘hold’ (pedal) para se mexer nos vários parâmetros enquanto soa o mesmo acorde, ideal para criar ‘pads’. Depois, ‘Drawbar Organ’, onde existe um órgão, com as tradicionais barras de harmónicos, rotary speakers, percussion, vibrato e ainda distorção. Existem ainda um arpeggiator e um sequenciador.

No G1, a Casio baseou-se no P1, retirando as funções Hex Layer e Drawbar Organ, e acrescentando um sampler com o seu próprio looper. Estas são as únicas diferenças entre o G1 e o P1, à excepção do número de sons PCM, que baixou de 400 para 300.

Que são sintetizadores muito completos, são, mas o veredito final só pode ser feito quando chegarem às mãos do público, o que está previsto para Abril.

OZ Projekt

Um dos projectos mais acarinhados pelos users do fórum SynthsPT é o OZ Projekt.

O seu primeiro album, Voyages é um trabalho magnifico e fruto do génio de Jorge Oliveira, um user bastante ativo do nosso fórum. Na sua essência este trabalho é o culminar de vários anos de experimentalismo e composição marcada por texturas eletrónicas e ambientais.

O resultado final é um álbum único, o nome não podia ser mais apropriado, “Voyages”, pois este trabalho leva-nos numa autentica viagem sonora por sítios distintos, com sentimentos variados, com momentos em que somos inundados por mensagens que nos obrigam a refletir, com variações de composição fantásticas e completamente desprovidas de rótulos.

Não temos dúvidas que este é um dos projectos mais promissores a nível nacional. A qualidade dos músicos é surpreendente, a versatilidade dos temas é fora de serie e a envolvência deste trabalho é brilhante, o site SynthsPT recomenda!

Recentemente foi lançado o primeiro videoclip oficial, a música chama-se Zenith, e o video foi dirigido pela Daniela Silva.

De uma simplicidade única, sem qualquer tipo de menus, simplesmente conecte um controlador MIDI e deixe-se levar pelo seu som.

Especificações:

Minitaur is a powerful, compact Analog Bass Synthesizer that features a classic one knob per function design. It is the first instrument in the Taurus family that does not have foot pedals. At only 8.5″ x 5.25″ and less than 3lbs, the Minitaur puts legendary analog Moog bass into a package designed to fit seamlessly into today’s performance and production environments. There are no confusing or convoluted menus to dig through. Plug in a MIDI controller or hook it up to your computer and start playing immediately.

Don’t be fooled by it’s size. Minitaur delivers all the growl, snarl and low end assosiciated with the Taurus family of Bass Synthesizers in a rugged performance package that is small enough to take with you anywhere.

• One knob per function interface for tweaking and creating new sounds on the fly. It also makes live performance a blast.

• Two oscillators with Sawtooth (Original Taurus) and Square wave-shapes for each VCO. Recreate sounds of the original Taurus with sawtooth waves, or create new sounds with square waves or a combination of both.

• 2 Mixer VCAs for VCO levels control of Oscillators 1 and 2.

• Moog Ladder Filter with adjustable resonance delivers classic Taurus 1 and 3 bass and boom.

•Two Minimoog style ADSR Envelope Generators for modulating VCF and VCA. The Decay and Release segments are controlled by the Decay knob, while the Release segment is enabled or disabled via Release On/Off switch.

• Midi-syncable LFO with Controls for Rate, VCO LFO Amount, and VCF LFO Amount

• DIN MIDI and MIDI over USB offer complete control of the Minitaur’s sound engine.

• Analog Control inputs for Pitch, Filter, Volume and Gate. Use an EP2 or CV to connect and control MInitaur with everything from Modulars to Moogerfoogers.

• External audio input for processing external audio through the Mixer and Filter section of Minitaur.

• Headphone output with 1/8″ connection.

• Compact rugged steel chassis that is built like a tank.

Front Panel Controls:

•VCO2 Frequency – Sets the frequency offset of VCO2 from VCO1 from -1 Octave to +1 Octave. Center is unison with VCO1.

•Oscillator 1 & 2 Saw/Square Waveform Selector – Selects a Sawtooth wave (LED OFF) or Square wave (LED ON) Signal for VCO1 and 2.

•VCO1 Level – Sets the level of VCO1

•VCO2 Level – Sets the level of VCO2

•VCF Cutoff – Sets the Cutoff Frequency of the 4-pole Moog Lowpass VCF from 20Hz to 20KHz

•VCF Resonance – This sets the gain for the amount of signal from the output of the VCF fed back to the input of the VCF. This creates a peak in Frequency response at the Cutoff Frequency that can be increased all the way to self-oscillation.

•VCF EG Amount – Bi-polar control sets the (+) or (-) Amount of Envelope Generator modulation of the VCF. Center is no Envelope Generator modulation.

•LFO Rate – Sets the frequency of the LFO. Range is from 0.01Hz to 100Hz

•LFO VCO Amount – Sets the Amount that the LFO modulates the VCO

•LFO VCF Amount – Sets the Amount that the LFO modulates VCF

•VCA EG Attack – Sets the attack Time of a Minimoog-Style ADSR Envelope Generator used to modulate the VCA. Time ranges from 1 msec to 30 seconds.

•VCA EG Decay/Release – Sets both the decay time to the sustain level and release time of a Minimoog-Style ADSR Envelope Generator used to modulate the VCA. Time ranges from 1 msec to 30 seconds. The Release segment of the EG is enabled by the Release On/Off switch.

•VCA EG Sustain – Sets the sustain level of a Minimoog-Style ADSR Envelope Generator used to modulate the VCA.

•VCF EG Attack – Sets the attack Time of a Minimoog-Style ADSR Envelope Generator used to modulate the VCF. Time ranges from 1 msec to 30 seconds.

•VCF EG Decay/Release – Sets both the decay Time to the sustain level and release time of a Minimoog-Style ADSR Envelope Generator used to modulate the VCF. Time ranges from 1 msec to 30 seconds. The Release segment of the EG is enabled by the Release On/Off switch.

•VCF EG Sustain – Sets the sustain level of a Minimoog-Style ADSR Envelope Generator used to modulate the VCF.

•Release On/Off Switch – Enables (LED On_ or Disables (LED Off) the Release segments of both Envelope Generators.

•Glide On/Off Switch – Enables/ Disables the Glide function

•Glide – Sets the rate of Glide when the note controlling the MINITAUR changes.

•Volume – The Master Volume of the MINITAUR’s synth Engine.

•Fine Tune – Adjusts the frequency of the VCOs +/- 1 semitone.

•MIDI Indicator LED – Indicates incoming MIDI activity

•LFO Rate Indicator LED – Indicates the rate of the LFO.

Back Panel:

•Audio Out – 1/4″ Unbalanced jack.

•Headphones — Jack for stereo headphone output.

•Audio In – 1/4″ Unbalanced jack accepts line-level input.

Analog CV Inputs:

•Pitch CV – 1/4″ TRS Jack accepts 0 to +5V signal (internally processed for 1 V/Octave) via passive Expression Pedals or CVs.

•Filter CV – 1/4″ TRS Jack accepts 0 to +5Vsignal via passive Expression Pedals or CVs.

•Volume CV – 1/4″ TRS Jack accepts 0 to +5Vsignal via passive Expression Pedals or CVs.

•Gate – 1/4″ Jack accepts a 0 (Off)/ +5V(On) Gate signal to trigger the unit’s EGs.

•MIDI (DIN) – Standard DIN MIDI input for MIDI Control of the MINITAUR

The Roland JV-1080 was one of the hottest and most popular digital synthesizers ever to come from Roland. Incredible sound quality capable of emulating any instrument imaginable plus totally fat analog synth type sounds and loads of percussion! It has 64 voices of polyphony and 16 part multitimbral, it’s no wonder this is part of almost every Film Score Composers set-up as well as many more artists and hobbyists!

It has 8MB of sounds and it also offers a lot of expandability with 4 expansion slots and 2 data card memory slots. You can get up to 42MB of sounds by adding any of the popular JV-80 expansion cards suited for Techno, World Instruments, Orchestral or Synthesizers. The 1080 has a large LCD screen, lots of effects and filters for creative flexibility, motion control and extensive MIDI implementation. PROJECTOS NO VSYNTH
Projectos são pastas com nome tipo “exemplo.prj” onde no seu interior tem ficheiros patch e respectivas samples.
O Vsynth só pode ter um projecto aberto de cada vez, cada projecto será todas os patches e samples disponiveis e apresentados no teclado.
A melhor maneira de usar projectos é ter um cartão de memoria para copiar para lá os projectos podendo depois selecionar o projecto que querem usar.
Podem criar os vossos projectos para usar em determinados concertos ou até por motivos de organização (com os vossos sons favoritos por exemplo). Nos vossos projectos podem importar sons de todos os outros projectos conforme quiserem.

Como usar um cartão CF no Vsynth
Basta terem uma placa PCMCIA com conversor para cartão CF por exemplo.
O formato PCMCIA é igual ao das CARDS da ROLAND.
Um exemplo de uma combinação de PCMCIA e cartão de memoria de 2GB:

(Esta combinação no meu VSynth funciona perfeitamente, no entanto a memoria máxima aconselhada é 1GB, acima de 1GB nem todos os cartões são compativeis).

Como copiar projectos para o cartão
Se o vosso computador tiver entrada PCMCIA (como portateis) ou até entrada CF, podem ligar no proprio computador e copiar para lá as pastas “exemplo.prj” se não tiverem este tipo de leitores então liguem o Vsynth por USB ao PC e cliquem em “MODE” e escolham “USB” depois selecionem o “CARD”.
-Podem alterar o nome das pastas á vontade, o nome da pasta será o nome do projecto.

Criar um novo projecto: Podem criar uma pasta vazia com o nome que quiserem tipo “favoritos.prj” e depois no Vsynth abrir esse projecto, esse projecto vai estar limpo, não vai ter nem patches nem samples, depois podem IMPORTAR sons de outros projectos para o que acabaram de criar.

Ten Thousand Wrong Choices

O SynthsPT convida-o a ouvir os primeiros demos desta banda Portuguesa.

Thousand Wrong Choices is a synergy of talented and passionate musicians based out of Porto. Formed in 2010, the alternative hard rock band consists of five members, some of them from the critically acclaimed former bands Y?, In Solitude and Slowmotion Beerwalk.
The quintet is Sofia Lopes (singer/songwriter), Mad Makk (guitar/composer/back vocals), Hugo Moreira (drummer), John Keel
(keyboards/synthesizer) and Pedro Moutinho (bass).

While TTWC influences range from Linda Perry, Alice in Chains, Korn, Porcupine Tree, as well as many others, the true inspiration comes from the band itself and the inumerous choices they had to make along the way, hence the name.
TTWC’s sounds reflect both the emotion and drama of making choices, many of them wrong ones, but that ultimately teach us how to fight for what we really believe in no matter how long it may take us to get were we dreamt of.

With huge guitar riffs, standout piano passages, elaborate synth pieces, intense drums, wrenching bass tones and a singer whose voice could well rival Sandra Nasic or Linda Perry, TTWC want to take their fans into a soulful, mountain moving and self discovery journey of sometimes melodically soaring vocals and sometimes calm soothing whispers.
Stretching the conventional song format into something more meaningful, TTWC’s music aims not only capture the listeners but also share a story and strength pulled from a raw and visceral place that people today seem to have forgotten.

After months of rehearsing and home recording, TTWC is ready to release the first EP and take the stages early in 2012.
